Thorndon House
Completed 2010
Alteration project in association with Tse Wallace Architects Limited.
The new owners of a home in what was previously the Thorndon Bowling Club pavilion wanted a design that would enrich their family's daily life while respecting the character of the original building.
A re-think of the upper level resulted in a suspended contemporary interior space, with kitchen, dining and living areas. A new deck captures afternoon sun and provides garden access, while sliding doors allow the outside in and provide views of the Tinakori Hill.
Clever use of sliding panels and built-in joinery units creates separate living areas and a wall originally used as locker storage for the bowling club now houses custom-designed shelving and storage units.
