Mount Victoria House 1

Completed 2016

Alterations.

The rear of a villa with small service areas and an enclosed coal range, was re-designed to give a new kitchen, dining and study area with generous doors and windows opening to an outdoor courtyard.

Rather than completely opening up the rear wall with sliding doors - which can work well in places less windy than Wellington - the kitchen, dining and study spaces each have their own windows or door. Large sliding panels can be used to close the study off from the dining area. The previous study was converted into a bathroom and laundry.

A glazed pivot door at the end of the hallway frames a view of the courtyard and defines the threshold between the contemporary design and the original villa.
